Printmaking is often viewed merely as a method of reproduction, a tool to multiply an image. For our first group exhibition, we have invited eight artists who fundamentally challenge this definition.
Melissa Gordon, Natasja Mabesoone, Michael Van den Abeele, Lieven Deconinck, Robin Vermeersch, Frédéric Platéus, Jaya Pelupessy, and Manor Grunewald all utilize graphic methods, yet they deploy them to create unique, singular works. Their practices span sculpture, painting, and installation, proving that the “print” is not an end product but a versatile medium for spatial and conceptual exploration.
From the gestural and material investigations found in Gordon’s and Mabesoone’s work to the structural and photographic deconstructions of Pelupessy and Van den Abeele, this exhibition highlights a diverse range of approaches. Whether through the ceramic interventions of Vermeersch, the painterly expansions of Deconinck and Grunewald, or the abstract formalisms of Platéus, the common denominator is a refusal to be limited by convention.
This exhibition aims to demonstrate just how broad the field of graphics can be when approached with freedom and experimentation. It is a celebration of the medium’s capacity to transcend its traditional boundaries, serving as a foundational statement for our mission to merge the processes of creation and exhibition through a shared fascination for all printed matter.

Print Date: May 2022When Eva Vermeiren is working, she is actually playing. When she’s making decisions, she’s doubting them. All the things she collects, she aims to redistribute again. Eva Vermeiren’s artistic world is entirely hers and oozes a very personal aesthetic.
The works are always built on a balanced scale between rules and improvisation. Very often Eva creates a stage upon which different esthetical actions can take place. Collage is one of Vermeirens preferred media and for Studio Serieus she has made an edition of 25 different collages on silkscreen. A main raster has been screenprinted that serves as the background for different pieces of collage to walk on and off. Some of the snippets she collected many years ago and have become dear pieces to her. Others just kind of wandered in at the last second and were greeted as welcomed foreign guests.
Vermeiren is a very avid theater goer and in some way her works can be seen as little arena’s where all of her actions, the stuff she collects, her movements and ideas and a bunch of coincidences take place and intertwine into one beautiful snapshot. When Eva Vermeiren is playing, she is working. When she’s doubting, she’s making decisions. By distributing, she collects.
About the artist: Eva Vermeiren, born in 1989, lives in Ghent. As a child, the thing she enjoyed most about traveling was arranging her socks, pants and t-shirts in the hotel closet. She loves both quirky flowers and coincidence as well as series, enumerations and delineations. Her work often arises from self-imposed rules, for example by implementing a predetermined cutting method.

Print Date: February 2022Ceylan’s sculptures and performances strike right at the core of what it is to be human and evoke deep, emotional responses. For Studio Serieus Dennis Ceylan made a first ever silkscreen edition depicting five nude torsos contorting in a sea of pink.
“Stately, plumb…” This is how James Joyce’s early 20th century literary masterpiece ‘Ulysses’ opens. The same two words could function perfectly as a title for a text on the work of Dennis Ceylan. Stately meaning upright, standing up proudly. And plumb as in well-fed, ample.
When you encounter a work made by Ceylan these two words capture the initial impression perfectly: stately, plumb sculptures. But where Joyce uses these words to draw the reader into a difficult and hi-brow tour-de-force, the practice of Ceylan works in an almost primitive way.
About the artist: Born in 1998, Dennis grew up in a Belgian-Turkish family in Koekelare, struggling for a healthy body and a good portion of culture. A visit to the Louvre showed him the bodies of antiquity carved in stone. With arms, legs or heads lost throughout history, these sculptures maintain their idealistic status. Today Ceylan questions his search for the ideal body through his bulky sculptures, topped with an extra layer of flesh and here and there a missing limb.

Print Date: December 2021Eight Vases, Five Apples, Three Mushrooms,… The titles of Bert Huyghe’s new works don’t leave much to the imagination. What you see is what you get. Or as Huyghe, claiming a well-known internet-meme, labels it: “It ain’t much but it’s honest work.”
In the midst of the Covid-pandemic the artist decided to start at the beginning and paint everything. In an attempt to bring some order to this chaotic world Huyghe divides his brightly colored subjects among different canvases and lets them look loudly and proudly at viewers exclaiming: here we are now, contemplate us.
About the artist: Born in 1989, Huyghe was raised in rural Meetjesland, focusing on a football career that never happened. He loves movies, astrology and Italian food. Nowadays he lives hidden in Ostend were he paints mushrooms, apples and fish in a cozy atelier in the harbor.
